Friends
of the Fallbrook Community Air Park
Borrego
Flyout
This
Sunday, March 28th!
Lunch * Wildflowers * Grapefruit
Last
week we pre-flew our Borrego Flyout and the desert is looking mighty
fine. The weather is pleasantly warm and the flowers blooming, so we’re
calling on all Friends for a quick hop to Borrego Springs.
Our
plan is simple. Take off around 10 a.m.—Borrego is so close the rabbits
and tortoises can leave Fallbrook Air Park at almost the same time—and
we’ll gather on the Borrego ramp just prior to 11 a.m. before marching into the Assaggio restaurant for a tasty Italian lunch. Departures
are at your leisure.
I need a headcount to
inform the Assaggio
of our needs. We’re aiming for the upstairs balcony seating with its
excellent view of airport operations and the surrounding mountains. Please call me at 760
451-2878 if you’re attending.
While
lunch is the FFCAP goal in Borrego, there are other things you may wish
to do. It’s flower season and the desert blooms will be open while
we’re there (the State Park is calling 2010 a “good” to “very good”
flower year). If you call Louise at
the airport (760 767-7415) you can reserve a rental car for
ground-based exploration.
For
the eagle-eyed there is a map at the Borrego Airport office depicting
an aerial tour of the Anza Borrego State park. This is the largest
state park in California (approximately 600,000 acres), so exploring by
air is a great way to scout this huge geographic wonderland, especially
for future ground trips. I suggest making air tours earlier in the
morning, then joining with your Friends for lunch at the airport.
Delicious, very sweet,
red Grapefruit are available in 8# bags for $5.00 right
at the airport! Place your order with me by Thursday and they’ll be
waiting for you at the airport office.
Another Borrego bargain
is the 100LL fuel. But beware over-gross conditions after a nice
Italian lunch.
Just one reminder about
Borrego airport: the calm wind runway is 08. Check on Unicom 122.8 for
landing advisory (and avoid the aerobatic box immediately north of
the airport). Have a nice flight and I’ll see you there.—Bob Hume, Borrego Flyout Coordinator
